Practice Practice is an accessible network of resources for artists building sustainable practices.
Practice Practice is a collaborative project by Isa Rodriguez and Dylan Cale Jones.
This multimedia project encourages artists to transform their creative practices by defining success for themselves.
Artists are often taught to prioritize production and commercial success over everything else, including relationships, rest, and mental health. This expectation is harmful and unsustainable. Our project highlights definitions of success grounded in sustainability, community, and individual well-being.
Practice Practice includes a workbook, a podcast, a newsletter, and a website.
Workbook
We wrote an interactive workbook titled “In Practice: How to Keep Creating”.
This book has essays, questions, and exercises that investigate different aspects of creative practice, including collaboration, individual needs, boundaries, time, and materials. The workbook guides artists as they explore facets of their practice. We are publishing the book in print and digital formats in November 2023.
Podcast
We are launching a podcast, interviewing 12 Oklahoma-based visual artists to produce the first season of episodes. These conversations will focus on ways artists work toward sustainability, community, and individual well-being in their practices. Transcripts will be available through the website.
Newsletter
Twice a month we publish a free newsletter with questions, exercises, interviews and articles about building sustainable creative practices. Our newsletter is thoughtful and supportive.

Website
The website archives the Practice Practice project, hosting the digital workbook, podcast episodes, written transcripts, and a newsletter sign-up form.
